Evolution/Species/Races- questions raised

I thought I would bring up this topic... I am very interested in learning more about this topic. For some reason early man has a certain curiosity with me. It’s interesting to think about or learn about. I mean if we did come from a form of monkey, if we did evolve into what we are now... I mean its got to be interesting to see if we have stopped evolving or are going to continue to something much different than what we are now.

After all, we have evolved in some ways. We've increased our life expectancies, height, and have become immune to certain past diseases and plagues. So why would we not have evolved from a different body structure, or mind? It’s not impossible, but for some Christians it’s hard to even listen to it. I am a Christian, and I still believe in evolution. How I can combine the two? I see it as the bible has many metaphors that no one understands. The bible doesn't tell us everything about the world, dinosaurs, about God, and any other questions that boggle the human mind. So I see it, as the bible is to guide and give light, but at the same time, still help you figure out some of the pieces yourself. After all, God can't force you to believe in him, and he can't make it completely understandable for us! If he did, well life would seem almost pointless, the fun is to try and figure out what’s what.

When it comes to calling animals and even humans into categories such as “species”, “cousins”, “families”, and “races”… I don’t get it. I mean… why do they call animals “species” and call humans “races” What is the big difference between the two?

Below are website for the definitions of the two words:

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=species

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=races

Here is an example of my confusion. Below are the different races/species of the two.

Lemurs:
 Black
 Mongoose
 Brown
 Red-bellied
 Crowned
 Gray Bamboo
 Ring-Tailed
 Ruffed
 Golden Bamboo

Humans:
 Black
 White
 Hispanic
 Asian
 Indian
 American Indian
 Ect…

The lemurs are all called lemurs… no matter what their fur difference, body shape, and food… just like humans… we have our racial differences as in hair, body shape, skin color, and food. So why are we races, and the animals species, if we did evolve from animals… then aren’t we one?

I found this on a website:

Anyone with their opinions, questions, or anything at all to say… just do so.

Interesting stuff indeed. I keep meaning to look into this more, I've always wondered how confident scientists are about making certain distinctions between animals. I'm pretty sure that one of the more common determiners of if two animals are the same "species" is if they can produce offspring. A chihuahua can produce offspring with a german shepherd. I'm also pretty sure a chihuahua can produce offspring with a wolf! another thing i keep meaning to look up.

check out what wikipedia says on race and also how scientists classify organisms.
