Rev. Jesse Jackson called in after 5 year old cuffed by police

On March 14th, a 5 year old black kindergartner was hand cuffed after throwing a tantrum.

The young girl was caught on video tape that was released earlier this year after tearing papers off of a bulletin board, climbing on a table, and punching the assistant principal.

Soon after, they school didn't call the parents, or try to restrain her, instead they call the police on a five year old! Before the police arrived, the tape also showed that the girl was calming down before the officers approached her. The officers then pin her arms down and hand cuff her hands behind her back, all while the little girl cried and scream, "NO!" The young girl was then put int he back of a squad car, had her feet restrained, and was arrested.

Later the girl was released without charges.

The officers involved in the incident were not punished. The video of the March 14 confrontation prompted criticism of the police and school system, and charges of racism that brought the Rev. Jesse Jackson to town to meet with school officials. The girl is black, and the police officers are white.

The girl's mother plans to sue the city, and was the one who released the tape earlier this year.

They called the police on a 5 year old? Children throw tantrums, and I doubt a 5 year old could inflict alot of pain to a grown adult. That is excessive force to the extreme. That girl could be tramautized. I admit the behavior is bad, and she should be punished, but Time Out or calling her parents would have been so much more responsible.
